Ron McAlear has over 40 years of experience in all phases of the Maritime Industry. Prior to  establishing McAlear Maritime Strategies LLC, he was the CEO of Atlantic Marine Holding Company LLC and President of Atlantic Marine Alabama LLC. Atlantic Marine is the leading Ship Repair Company on the East and Gulf Coast of the United States. Prior to his 6 ½ years at Atlantic Marine he was the CEO of the Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard, the newest and the most modern new construction yard in the United States.

Mr. McAlear started his career in the Merchant Marine having graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a 3rd Assistant Engineering License and a Bachelors Degree in Marine & Electrical Engineering. He sailed for 3 years and returned to school to pursue degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He Graduated from University of Michigan with a Bachelors Degree in NAME and Graduated with a Science Master’s degree in NAME from MIT. He began his Shipyard career with Avondale Industries in Engineering and then Advanced Programs and Marketing.  He then joined Waterman Steamship Corp and was responsible, as the owner’s representative for the construction of 2 LASH Vessels and 3 RO/RO Container Vessels.  He was then responsible for the design and the conversion of the 3 RO/RO Container vessels to Maritime Prepositioning Vessels. They are in operation for the US Government today. After the conversion program he joined Lakeshore Inc as Manager of the Marine Division and then as VP Engineering. He then rejoined Avondale Industries holding various positions as Program Manager for the Mine Hunter Coastal (MHC) project, Vice President Advanced Programs and Marketing, Corporate VP of Advanced Programs and Marketing and finally VP Operations prior to going to Kvaerner Philadelphia (now Aker Philadelphia).

Mr. McAlear is a member of numerous professional societies, has had numerous speaking engagements with ME Log forums, MARAD forums, and SNAME meetings. He has testified twice before the Congressional House Armed Service Committee for Maritime Affairs. He resides in New Orleans, LA with his wife Trisha.
